Bears and the Honey Pot

Bears Eating Honey in Sequoia National ParkI discovered this old postcard today, and wow, have the times changed. Hard to imagine that bears were fed honey in our Sequoia National Park.  Too bad we had to learn our lesson at the expense of the bears.

Song of the Day – “Wake Up Everybody” – Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes

The words are so true,. Come on everyone lets make a difference.

Who’s that staring out of the back of that Blue Notes album cover? Why, it’s Teddy Pendergrass, lead singer for their glory years.

This song isn’t as smooth as their usual fare, like “The Love I Lost”, but the whole point is for everybody to wake up.

Note from Chris at Sequoia Motel:

It always puts a smile on my face when I see the young ones checking-in with their families, busy looking over their Junior Ranger booklets and making plans to earn their Junior Ranger Badge. My hope is all children will have the opportunity to visit our National Parks, to experience nature at its best and see how our world is beautiful, exciting and much larger than their every day surroundings.

Kids ages 5 and up can earn the official Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Junior Ranger badge by completing the park’s award-winning Junior Ranger booklet. Kids can ask for a free Junior Ranger booklet in any visitor center.

This photo above is of my granddaughter, Ema. She and my grandson (her cousin), Tyler, recently spent a day in the park with their Mamas. I’m sure it’s just the beginning of a long and personal relationship for them with our nearby beautiful Sequoia National Park. It will be a few more years before they can actually become Junior Rangers.
